Hooksett, N.H. (May 13, 2026) – Founded in 1971, Collins Tree Service has experienced significant growth in the last several years, adding new employees and service lines. In 2026, Collins is adding a rare competency-based Arborist apprenticeship to accommodate future growth and strengthen its commitment to the trades.
Structured over three years, the apprenticeship includes a combination of on-the-job learning and related instruction: specifically, nearly 500 hours of related instruction through the Manchester-based Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA).
Apprentices receive hands-on training in a wide range of core arborist skills including general safety, equipment fundamentals, aerial lift work, tree climbing, tree and shrub identification, tree biology, pruning, rigging and removals, tree planting and establishment, plant healthcare, and tree risk assessment. Participation in the program means that Collins’ team members will work 1-on-1 with the apprentice, honing their skills as they teach them. At the completion of the program, the goal is that the apprentice has progressed toward journeyworker-level competency.
As apprentices progress through the program, they also advance through a structured wage schedule while being evaluated using a performance scale where they demonstrate competency.
